Talal Itani

Talal Itani is the translator of ClearQuran, a modern English translation of the Quran known for being clear, accurate, and easy to read.

Born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1961, Talal moved to the United States at 18 and earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He later founded a telecommunications research and development company.

He first encountered the Quran in 1992, and it changed his life. For years, he searched for an English translation that was accurate, clear, and easy to read all at once, and never found one. So he set out to translate the Quran himself: faithful to the Arabic, written in plain contemporary English, and free of interpretations, footnotes, and sectarian slant. Arabic is his native language, and English is the language of his daily life.

He published the translation in 2012 at ClearQuran, where tens of millions of people have since read it. It is shared freely under a Creative Commons license and is available in several print editions, including a large-print edition readable from age nine.

Talal lives in Texas, where he writes, develops software, and continues his work on the Quran.
