Alexander G. Monroe

Alexander Monroe, a retired U.S. Navy Captain is an honors graduate of Christchurch School a venerable Virginia institution, and an NROTC graduate of the University of Virginia, where he earned the B.A. with Distinction. Following active duty, he enrolled in the M.A. program at the College of William and Mary and was awarded the M.A. in Government. His first commanding officer aboard USS Aucilla (AO56) was the former naval aide to John F. Kennedy. He pursued a career in the government of the City of Richmond, Virginia and retired after service in the city manager's staff and as City Records Manager/Archivist. He concurrently served in the active Navy Reserve, where he served in the Naval History and Heritage Command. In that capacity, he co-authored a comprehensive official report on humanitarian care given to Haitian Migrants at the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and was the sole author of the official report on Department of Defense assistance to civilian law enforcement authorities in the so called "drug war," (1989-97). He served in the Arabian Gulf during Operation Earnest Will, the re-flagging of tankers in the Iran/Iraq War. He has earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in service of the United States.
