Welcome to my personal author's page! I am a freelance software engineer located in Geneva, Switzerland. I studied Electrical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). After having fried a chip too many, I decided to switch to software engineering and never looked back.

I have also spent a decade in IT in the financial services sector where I tried to figure out the meaning of life amongst men in gray suits. I started my "IT career" during the good old days of the Internet craze in 1998-99. Back then developers were paid a fortune for building ugly web apps. Over the years I took part in different IT projects and assumed the following tasks:

- Launched an unsuccessful startup in Switzerland, somewhere where VCs and banks only invest in startups once they are successful.

- Wrote Eclipse plugins and developer tools to accelerate JEE development (back then it was called J2EE and developing an Enterprise App was a painful experience akin to building a pyramid for the Pharos)

- Worked over a period of 5 years on a mammoth IT project for replacing a legacy banking system

- Implemented integration components and service-oriented architectures using web services

- Integrated access rights and identity management solutions within IT infrastructures

- Wore a tie so that I would not be reprimanded by the Chief Information Officer when I bumped into him in the elevator, the restrooms and the cafeteria

Some of my current interests include:

- Monte Carlo methods for computational finance

- High performance C++

- Derivatives pricing using multicore processors and GPUs

- Building decent cross-platform toolings for the F# functional programming language (see project FSharpener at http://aludin.com)

- Mobile application design (iOS, Android & BlackBerry 10)

I also thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge about technical topics that I find particularly cool. I've therefore written a book about BlackBerry 10 Cascades programming, which is published by Apress. One of my next projects is to write about Information Technology inefficiencies, which I will initially publish as blog posts.
