E J. Hounslow

After a career in the Merchant Navy (P & O shipping company) and then the Civil Service I retired and took the opportunity to do things I wanted to do instead of those things I was paid to do. Initially I spent my time researching my Grandfather's service in WWI which I subsequently wrote up and which was then published by the History Press under the title "Fighting for the Bucks". Following that Ihad two more titles published “Nelson’s Right hand man” and “Latin Lives - 600 years of the Royal Latin School”.

On 7th April I published my fourth book entitled “The Lieutenant’s Diary” which is the story of one young naval officer during WW2. The young man is Lieutenant George Embleton RNVR and his career took him from the icy northern seas of the infamous Arctic Convoys to the landings in North Africa, the D-Day landings before finishing his war anchored in Tokyo Bay as the Japanese authorities came aboard the USS Missouri to sign the surrender bringing WW2 to a close.

Later in my life he became my secondary school headmaster and I learned a great deal from him. Everything from how to play the forward defensive stroke in cricket to basic logic. He was an enormously influential figure in my youth and I was proud to have the chance to pay tribute to him with this book.

On 11th August 2025 my first attempt at fiction will be published. A story of Cyprus in the 1950’s and their fight for freedom against British rule. It is entitled “And long will stand the empty plate”. Look out for it on Amazon.
