Howard Selden's transition from writing scientific papers while he practiced dentistry, to writing books after he retired was easier than anticipated. Of the six currently published books, all were fiction except, A Dental Odyssey—a personal memoir of sorts, which included an expansive canvas of the challenges to mankind's health and welfare.
Selden's first book, The Pariah Stigma, was a science-fiction work, which metaphorically dealt with Jewish history. Having identified his literary voice, the trilogy that followed: The Shaman and the Jew; Wapasha and the Rabbi; and An Unusual Encounter, all within valid historical frameworks, expanded an outline of the varied Jewish experiences
In a dramatic genre change, Selden's most recent book, The Skiers, explored the special mystique of the sport as experienced by four good friends. As a long time alpine ski enthusiast, Selden was well equipped to create a fascinating and exciting story of ski resorts, skiing thrills and spills, and romance.
For his next book, Selden is again dipping into an area of personal expertise: power boating. The current working title, The Lure of Boating- a cautionary tale, offers a glimpse into his take on the subject.
