Michael Kaltenmark

A 2002 graduate of Butler University, Michael Kaltenmark oversees Butler's community relations and social media efforts, serves as a University spokesperson, and assists with various public and media relations initiatives as Director of External Relations. However, Kaltenmark is perhaps best recognized for his role as caretaker of Butler's live English Bulldog mascots, Butler Blue III ("Trip"), and the late Butler Blue II.

Kaltenmark has been on the end of the Butler Bulldog's leash since 2004 and has been the catalyst behind school's live mascot program's growth in presence and popularity. It was Kaltenmark's time with Butler Blue II that inspired the story of "Good Boy, Blue!"

Since starting an official live mascot program in 2000, Butler's Bulldogs have become a benchmark for fellow live mascot programs across the country. Today, Butler Blue features the likes of a merchandise line, promotional partnerships, touring schedule, innovative marketing and engagement ventures, as well as a prolific social media presence (@ButlerBlue3) on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook.

A native of Wabash, Ind., Kaltenmark and his family (wife, Tiffany; son, Everett; son, Miles) reside in Indianapolis and attend Traders Point Christian Church. Kaltenmark also enjoys triathlon training and competition and is an avid music enthusiast and concert attendee.
