Liliana Corobca
Liliana Corobca (born October 10, 1975, Săseni, Călărași, Republic of Moldova) is a writer and researcher of communist censorship in Romania. Graduate of the Faculty of Letters of the State University of Moldova (1997), doctor in philology at the University of Bucharest (2001, with the thesis „The character in the Romanian interwar novel”, published by the University of Bucharest Publishing House, 2003). Scientific researcher at the Institute of History and Literary Theory „G. Călinescu ” of the Romanian Academy (2002-2011), associate professor at the Universities of Bucharest and Ploiești (2004 - 2007). She is an expert in the field of Romanian Exile at IICCMER in Bucharest (since 2014). Corobca benefited from scholarships and writer residencies in Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Romania.
She made her debut with the novel „Negrissimo” (Arc, Chisinau, 2003, “Prometheus” Award for debut of the magazine Romania literară, Award for debut in prose of the Writers' Union of the Republic of Moldova). He has also published the novels „A Year in Paradise” (Cartea Românească, 2005, translated into Italian in 2009 and into German in 2011), „Kinderland” (Cartea Românească, 2013, Polirom, 2015; Radio România Cultural Award, Cristal Award at the International Festival of in Vilenica, translated into German by Ernest Wichner - Der erste Horizont meines Lebens, 2015, into Slovenian by Aleš Mustar, 2015; into Serbian by Ileana Ursu Nenadić, Marija Nenadić, 2021); „The Empire of of the Spinsters” (Cartea Românească, 2015); „The Censor’s Notebook” (Polirom, 2017, translated into English by Monica Cure, Seven Stories Press, 2022), „The end of the road” (Polirom, 2018), „Buburuza”/ Lady Bird (Polirom, 2019), „Ionesco. Elegies for the new rhinoceros” (Polirom, 2020).
She published the study „The Book Control. Censorship of literature in the communist regime in Romania” (Cartea Românească, 2014; nominated for the prizes of the Cultural Observatory magazine and the PEN Romania Prize), the bilingual monologue in three acts „Censorship for beginners / Die Zensur. Für Anfänger” (Thanhäuser, Ottensheim am Donau, 2014; in German by Gerhardt Czejka), the volume of interviews „The Illusion of Crystallization. Communism, exile, destiny. Liliana Corobca in dialogue with Radu Negrescu Suțu” (Corint, 2019).
She edited the volumes „Alexandru Busuioceanu. An epistolary novel of the Romanian exile. Correspondence. 1942-1961” (2 vols., Jurnalul literar, 2003, 2004), „The Romanian Poetry in Exile” (anthology, preface and notes, Romanian Cultural Institute, 2006), „Romanian Golgotha. Testimonies of Bukovinians deported to Siberia” (texts collected by Dumitru Covalciuc, Vestala, 2009, 2015), „Purging books in Romania”, Documents. 1944-1964 (Tritonic, 2010), „The Institution of Communist Censorship in Romania. 1949-1977” (2 vols., Ratio et Revelatio, 2014; “Dimitrie Onciul” Award of the Cultural Foundation “Historical Magazine”), „Paul Goma and the Eternal Exile” (Ratio et Revelatio, 2016). She coordinated the volumes „Panorama of Communism in Soviet Moldova” (Polirom, 2019; “Alexandru Boldur” Award of the Cultural Foundation “Magazin istoric”), „Panorama of Communism in Romania” (Polirom, 2020).
