Mary Weeks Millard

Mary Weeks Millard is the author of 39 published books including 'I want to be an Airline Pilot'; 'The Birthday Shoes'; The Syding Series; The Applebrook series; 'Safari Tales'; 'The Year of the Mask'; 'The Runaway' and 'Belle of The Ball'.

She lives in retirement in Dorset, the county where she was born. She has also lived in Scotland, Gloucestershire; London ;Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Essex, as well as making many trips to Rwanda, and this is reflected in her writing.

As an author, she is very much a late starter! Following a career in nursing and caring for family, her first book of poetry was published in her sixties, and she has won a national award for a poem, 'The Sea Shell Girl'. She then ventured into biography and Christian fiction for children and young adults, in which she encourages young people to explore the Christian faith, having herself found faith in her teens.

When not sitting at her computer writing, she loves to spend time with her husband exploring the countryside and coastland near her home; having fun with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren when they come to visit. Her other hobbies are (yes, you've guessed it!) reading; botanical painting; felt making and baking.
