Darlene was born in 1943, the oldest of 2 sisters and one brother. She was married in 1965 to Michael Estlow. God blessed them with two daughters, one in 1976, and the other in 1979. After thirty years in California, they moved to Vancouver, Washington, where Michael had been born. They homeschooled their girls, which was a great time in Darlene's life. During that time, Darlene wrote articles for Christian magazines; many were for children. She was also writing poetry, which she published at home in small books. One of her poems, The Difference, escaped from a small book, Poems, that she published and copyrighted in 1973, and was published by many publishing companies on plaques and in other ways. Several years later, she was acknowledged as the writer and God blessed her with royalties from it! While she and her husband were homeschooling, she began to do research on her book, The Lord's Battle, putting it on hold until a time when she could publish it. Her husband passed away in 2007, and she moved to Kentucky to care for her aging mother. In 2010, she published The Lord's Battle and began writing poems about emotions she experienced when her husband passed away. At first, she published them herself from home in small books and gave them to people who suffered the loss of a loved one. The books grew from her emotions with her husband's death to include her father, her brother, and finally her mother. It was a challenge to do such a new thing, but she succeeded and published a second book: Spiritual Journey.
