Duncan Weller (www.duncanweller.com) is a writer and visual artist. He won two of Canada's top awards for his third book, The Boy from the Sun. He spent his childhood in Lennoxville, Quebec, and in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he later studied English Literature and Visual Arts at Lakehead University. He has lived in Toronto, Montreal, Victoria, and Vancouver. In Victoria he amassed a collection of the best quality paints and brushes which came in useful during lean years after he quit work to focus on creating his children's picture books, poetry, and short stories for adults. He returned to Thunder Bay to produce three semi-animated short films. While in Thunder Bay his third book won two of Canada's top awards for children's books, The Governor General's Award and the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Picture Book Award. Duncan displays his visual art at least once a year. He received a number of grants for his work from the Ontario Arts Councils and the Canada Council. He writes online magazine articles and an arts column for Thunder Bay's, Chronicle Journal. He works as a full time writer and visual artist. In 2012 he received a Chalmer's Arts Fellowship Award to travel to Ghana, Africa to do research on a future children's book. He has completed a few projects that have been in the works for several years. Duncan is currently working on his latest middle reader book, Punch-Out!, a picture book called, The Girl from the Moon, and continuing painting for a show called Stage 500.
