Lloyd Sparks

Lloyd Sparks, MD, grew up in Vancouver, Washington, the town of his birth. In 1972, he journeyed to Taiwan as a musician and never stopped travelling. He has lived in such places as Taiwan, Thailand, Holland, Hungary and Azerbaijan, and worked as a musician, a disaster relief worker, a Bible smuggler, a doctor, a scientist and a soldier. His writing reflects a fascination with foreign cultures, a broad palette of experience, and eclectic interests.

He started writing stories for his daughters in 2005 and was acclaimed a Best New Author in 2006 by Writer's Digest. After publishing six books in the category Young Adult Fiction, he wrote the autobiographical "Detour: My Brief but Amusing Career as a Bible Smuggler" chronicling his adventures carrying contraband literature into then-Communist countries in the late seventies. His most recent creation is "Boondoggle: My Unexpected Career as a Military Defense Contractor," the story of his life from 2006 to 2012 working in military intelligence and training interrogators and agent handlers. Dr. Sparks is a retired Special Forces sergeant major, holds a 3rd Dan black belt in Taekwondo, has appeared on Project Runway as a model, and holds the US Army record for certification in twenty foreign languages.
