Great Railway Journeys in Australia and New Zealand

There’s a great romance in train travel as it’s done at a leisurely pace, in comfort and the countryside can be admired through panoramic windows. When I began travelling on trains it was purely functional; a steam train to school. As I began travelling the globe, I realised I enjoyed the experience. Some trains were luxurious with while others were basic serving vital links to remote communities.

Whatever the purpose, trains have character. Once I realised how many exciting railways there were in Australia and New Zealand and how little information there was on each, I saw the need for a book. I like detail not just on how to catch the train but also the history and what I can see along the way. There’s nothing better than to explore a destination by train so I chose iconic journeys to enable like-minded travellers the opportunity to travel across Australia and around New Zealand armed with my book to appreciate both countries. It’s worth bearing in mind that timetables change, landslides close lines and passenger numbers can dwindle so use the book as a guide and confirm important travel details before travelling.
