Gergely Daroczi grew up in Hungary with a strong interest in natural sciences and math, but decided to earn Philosophy and Sociology master degrees and a PhD before irreversibly becoming a computer geek with a passion for open-source projects.
He worked as a social worker in homeless shelters (3 years), data analyst and engineer at survey and media research companies (8 years), became an assistant professor in statistics (5 years), then founded and lead a reporting Software-as-a-Service and consulting company (4 years) before moving to Los Angeles to work full-time as an R developer.
Having around 10 years of experience with R and actively organizing the Hungarian R community, he presented at a number of conferences in Hungary, Europe and USA as well, and besides working in commercial projects, he also took part in scientific projects in social and medical studies. In the past years, he contributed the R code examples for a number of journal articles, two books on finance, and then wrote his own book on how to analyze data in R - with practical examples.
