Sara E. Rimm-Kaufman

Sara E. Rimm-Kaufman, Ph.D., is the Commonwealth Professor at the School of Education and Human Development at University of Virginia. For two decades, she and her team have been conducting research on schools with the goal of using evidence to improve the quality and equity of learning experiences. Rimm-Kaufman has studied a range of programs -- Connect Science, EL Education, Leading Together, Responsive Classroom, RULER, Valor Collegiate & Compass and others. She has authored more than 100 chapters, articles, and blogs. Yet, she wrestles with the reality that education researchers have extensive knowledge about social and emotional learning but rarely make it accessible to educators. This concern led her to write, SEL from the Start, for elementary school teachers, as well as lead SEL in Action: Creating Systemic Change in Schools for school leaders, educators, researchers, and policy-makers.
