Innocenzo Mazzini

Innocenzo Mazzini is professor emeritus of History of the Latin language in the university of Macerata and fellow of the History of Science academy, Paris). He is the author of 15 scientific books and of more than 150 papers (published in Italian and International journals) dealing with the history of ancient medicine, the history of the Latin language and with the survival of classical antiquity in contemporary Western civilization. He has won national and international prizes and awards (e.g. Certamen capitolinum , Alexander v. Humboldt. )

Prof. Mazzini believes in the importance of making classical antiquity and its languages known to a wide audience, in the belief that this knowledge can help to better understand the present contemporary civilization and modern languages. With this goal, he has published several articles in well-known journals and the book

His recent publications are meant for an European audience interested in learning the Italian language, or interested to better know our past in order to better understand our present.

The book can be of use for learners of Italian: its simple and straightforward stories are enriched by comments on typical Italian expressions and idioms that are derived from classic and current stories and fables.

5. Paola. Diario storico di una vergine votata prima di nascere (402-416) (Ebook Amazon 2016, € 2) is a historic novel based on a true story. It is a love story, but also a story of social, human and cultural issues. Paola, an aristocratic Roman young woman, is held in hostage by the barbarians together with Galla Placidia the future empress. They live in a historical period (beginning of the 5th century A.D.) that shows many similarities with our present days: massive and uncontrolled migrations, difficult integration on the side of the newcomers, widespread corruption, declining population, social conflict, wars, etc. Against this background, Paola lives a passionate but conflictual love, while, together with Galla Placidia, she tries to find and to offer solutions to the issues of their times.
