For more than 20 years, Bill MacPhee has been educating and inspiring others about mental illness. From 1994 to 2017, he published “SZ Magazine,” a publication dedicated to inspiring people with schizophrenia who struggled to recover from an illness they thought they could never come back from. In 2014, he penned his first book, “To Cry A Dry Tear: Bill MacPhee’s Journey of Hope and Recovery from Schizophrenia” which details his own frightening path to psychosis when he was 24 and his journey back to a happy, fulfilling life.
Over the years, Bill has served as a beacon to many who’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia and the people in their lives who to support them. His contribution to the mental health community has earned him numerous accolades, including the Flag of Hope Award from the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, the Courage to Come Back Award from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and the Lionel Aldridge Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
