A career in the global business world - factory management, speech writing, policy advisor/co-ordinator, travel industry, public relations consultancy - provides my roots for thriller writing and self-help books, published and translated internationally. It began with my first thriller, The Nuclear Letters, which Time Magazine reviewed as 'credible and unnerving' and which the Oxford Times said had 'Ian Fleming-ish exuberance'. Ian Fleming's middle name was Lancaster, but sadly no relation! My guide to self improvement, 'The 20%Factor', led to some lively debate in The Times and elsewhere when I said that for most of us conforming was a better way to succeed than becoming a corporate maverick.
