Dr Omar Ahmed is a UK based film scholar with a PhD in Screen Studies from the University of Manchester (2019). He is also a teacher, writer and international curator of South Asian Cinema. He co-curates ‘Not Just Bollywood’ for HOME, Manchester.
Omar lectured & taught Media and Film Studies in Post 16 Further Education for over 15 years before going on to pursue a PhD at the University of Manchester, which was funded by the AHRC in 2015.
He lives in Manchester with his wife and two children. His most recent book which is on Indian Parallel Cinema was published by Bloomsbury in 2025. He is currently writing a BFI Film Classics monograph on Mani Kaul’s Uski Roti (1969).
