Jim Van Manen is an Associate Professor at Columbia College Chicago as well as an speaker, author and artist. He is hard of hearing and a child of Deaf parents. He is the author of The Fingerspelling Code and well-received art biographies. He advocates for the recognition, and inclusion of Deaf Art and Deaf Artists in the art world and in academia and researches American Sign Language fingerspelling. Jim has a BA from University of Northern Iowa and has an MA and Ph.D. from Gallaudet University.
