Joy Nussen LMFT

Joy Nussen has been a California licensed Marriage & Family Therapist since 1991. She graduated from UCLA in 1984 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and then earned a Master's degree in Educational Psychology from California State University at Northridge, in 1988.

Joy is advanced certified by the internationally recognized Equine Assisted Growth & Learning Association (EAGALA) to utilize horses experientially for mental health treatment and human development. She serves as the Orange County EAGALA Networking Coordinator and Joy is EMDR trained through EMDRIA.

Joy is the founder and CEO of EquineWorks which was formed in 2009 to provide equine assisted psychotherapy and equine assisted learning services to all ages. Joy is also the Clinical Director at Journey Coaching and Counseling Services where she provides coaching in marketing for mental health interns as well as clinical supervision and maintenance of a small office-based practice. Her interests are in mid-life issues, sand tray, trauma and grief and teaching interns how to apply the EAGALA model to office-based work.

Joy is the co-author of two manuals for mental health professionals who are interested in using equine assisted psychotherapy as part of their practice. Both publications are available on amazon.com as kindle and paperback versions.
