Douglas Baldwin was born in Corning, New York, in December of 1953 and grew up in suburban Long Island, not far from Walt Whitman's birthplace and John Coltrane's deathbed. He began his musical rapture on the drums, but a personnel crisis in his first band led him to the guitar, whereupon the ghosts of Whitman, Coltrane, and numerous other visionaries seemed to speak through its vibrating strings.
Douglas has always loved translating his musical experiences into written words. He has written extensively for every major guitar publication, and has published three instructional books under the Hal Leonard banner: "Play Guitar By Ear: An Innovative Guide to Listening and Learning," "Play Mandolin Today!" and "Comprehensive Chord Theory for Guitar."
