Erick Wilberding

More than thirty years ago, my doctoral studies at New York University brought me to the archives, libraries, galleries, and museums of Rome, where I researched and wrote my dissertation on the seventeenth-century French painter Nicolas Poussin. Like Poussin, I married and have remained in Rome, where I teach philosophy and Theory of Knowledge in the International Baccalaureate.

My work is grounded in a long-standing and reflective commitment to the Socratic tradition of inquiry. I am deeply convinced of the educational value of making thinking visible through dialogue by cultivating questioning, discussion, and shared reflection. My teaching and writing explore dialogic methods that foster critical thinking in classrooms, seminars, and home-based learning contexts.
