Lisa Veldkamp is the author of the poetry collections Nothing is Forgotten, When Words Start To Sing, Magical Beasts & Creatures and the novels The Elemental, The Empath and The Serpent, known as The Fire Trilogy, released by her publisher, Dragon Moon Press, Alberta, Canada.
The British rockband Placebo have been very important to Lisa. Without their music, The Elemental would not have been written. Though she liked their music for many years, it wasn’t untill the Battle for the Sun tour, when she saw them performing at the Pinkpop festival, the seeds for The Elemental were planted.
"They were playing ‘Come Undone’ and the Sun was just setting. Brian Molko said the song came to him in a dream and while they were playing, images flashed before my eyes. For a couple of minutes, I was in another world. It wasn’t untill much later though, I dreamed the outlines of The Elemental. Then I remembered that moment at Pinkpop and I listened to nothing else but ‘Battle for the Sun’ for days and days. So one could say they really are the soundtrack to my book."
The final instalment of The Fire Trilogy, The Serpent, was released Halloween 2020 by Dragon Moon Press. She also wrote The Bridge Between Yesterday and Tomorrow, her first short story for teenagers, which was released 18 October 2015 in the anthology Awethology Light by Plaisted Publishing.
Writing and creating stories has always been a part of her daily life. One night she dreamed the outlines of The Elemental and took it as a sign from the Universe to pursue a career in writing, which she combines with working in Forensic Care.
She grew up in a small town in the Netherlands where her parents always taught her to think outside the box. She has a degree in social studies and joined the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids as an adult.
Lisa loves London, according to her ‘the city where magic dwells’ and can often be found there. She still resides in the Netherlands, however, with her partner and their dog Miss Ginger Rogers and if you’re lucky, you may find her in her favourite coffeehouse, Barista cafe.
Lisa is also an editor for Harp Magazine in the Netherlands.
