Marcella Kriebel is artist and author with a background in cultural anthropology. She works working primarily in watercolor and uses her love of learning about people through the lens of food as grounds for her illustrated cookbook project. Marcella's two books and art prints are inspired by her experiences cooking with people in their homes throughout her travels in Latin America.
Marcella's first book, Mi Comida Latina was produced initially thanks to a successful kickstarter campaign, and released nationwide in 2013. It was listed as one of the Washington Post's best cookbooks of the year, and reflects an array of Latin American classics, from Arroz con Pollo to multiple ceviches. It's hand drawn quality truly captivate the reader.
Comida Cubana, A Cuban Culinary Journey is Marcella's second cookbook. It is comprised of over 100 recipes from her travels throughout Cuba, and is also beautifully illuminated with her watercolor illustrations. In addition, the cook includes a historical timeline of Cuba, the origin of many dishes and dozens of first person stories of Marcella's experience cooking. This book is an intimate glimpse into a travelers account of home cooking throughout the island nation.
