Donna Harris

Donna Harris is an author, educator, speaker, consultant and entrepreneur. She holds an MS degree in English and Deaf Education and was named a Daily Point of Light in 1991 for creating the nation's first statewide Deaf literacy coalition. Her focus now is training tutors for Deaf children and adults who use American Sign Language, Signed English or speech.

"Too many Deaf and hard-of-hearing people do not have high school diplomas, and many who do graduate lack proficiency in English, resulting in unemployment or underemployment. They are not failures; we have simply not met their needs. The solution for many is a tutor/mentor who supports the student, school and family to guide each learner to success."

Harris speaks at numerous conferences. Her most popular workshop is "How to Use American Sign Language to Accelerate Learning."
