Kathy Elstad

For Kathy Elstad, a retired first grade teacher, teaching children the love of reading and writing has been her passion for over 30 years. Since witnessing the joy a book can give a child, Kathy has dreamt of writing such a book. Her hope is that The Long Legged Turtle and I Love Being Me! will bring joy to many children.

Lucy Calkins really set Kathy on her writing journey. From Lucy, Kathy learned about the Writer’s Notebook, which Kathy calls her LifeBook. Her LifeBook is a collection of the little bits and pieces of her life. These bits and pieces create the stories that Kathy writes. Kathy loves to write and says that it’s a fun thing to do!

Kathy lives in Oswego with her husband, Duane. Between them, they have 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Spending time with her family is one of the joys in her life. Taking walks on the beach, laughing, quilting and just being with friends and family also gives Kathy great joy!
