Yael Kapitolnik was born in Tel Aviv to a Polish mother and a Moroccan father.
She did not go to school because she had to help with raising her younger siblings. She read books, made up stories and lived in a world of fantasy. She closed her eyes to the difficulties of life and dreamed of performing on stage. She didn’t know it at the time, but her life was just a rehearsal for the fulfillment of this dream.
Following her great success as a storyteller and stand-up comedian, she published her first book - a collection of stories reliving her childhood in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. In simple yet colorful language she captures the living essence of Israel.
When Yael tells her stories, the audience laughs and cries in pain, empathy and love. The stories bring us to the famous Carmel Market with its vendors and laborers, to her father who bequeathed his serious illness to six of his seven children. Yael’s stories touch the heart of all of us.
The Woman From the Second Floor is a must-read for all lovers of the city that never sleeps and all those who feel nostalgia for Tel Aviv’s good old days.
