Marcelo Bertalmío

Marcelo Bertalmío received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Minnesota in 2001. He is an associate professor at University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, working on image processing and computer vision for digital cinema applications, although he himself prefers the (analog) films of Ernst Lubitsch and Luis Buñuel. He has directed two award-winning feature length films, and his current research interests are in developing image processing algorithms mimicking neural processes in the human visual system, allowing to shoot cinema with no more artificial lighting than what people present at the scene need to be able to see.
