Rafael A. Calvo, PhD (2000) is Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and Director of the Software Engineering Lab that focuses on the design of systems that support wellbeing in areas of mental health, medicine and education.
He is Research Program Leader at the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre (yawcrc.org.au/).
He has a PhD in Artificial Intelligence applied to automatic document classification and has also worked at Carnegie Mellon University, Universidad Nacional de Rosario, and as a consultant for projects worldwide.
Rafael is author of over 150 publications in the areas of affective computing, learning systems and web engineering, recipient of five teaching awards, and a Senior Member of IEEE.
Rafael is Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing and of IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies.
Rafael is co-editing the forthcoming Handbook of Affective Computing to be published by Oxford University Press.
Most recently, with Dorian Peters, he also authored "Positive Computing" to be published by MIT Press in 2014
