About the Author
Dr. Nefretiti Morant is the author behind NefWrites, writing heartfelt fiction rooted in faith, family, and the resilience of everyday people. Her work spans young adult, adult contemporary, and children's fiction, with a particular passion for stories that trace generations — carrying readers from the shores of West Africa and Barbados through the Middle Passage, the Revolutionary War, and into the modern-day lives of families still shaped by that inheritance.
Nef's Grown Hearts series follows the members of a close-knit Georgia church community as they navigate love, loss, and second chances, while her Becoming Hearts series turns to the next generation, following a group of high schoolers finding their footing in faith and friendship. Her Little Hearts, Big Truth series, co-authored with her daughter Phoenix, brings scripture-based truths to the youngest readers in a warm, accessible way.
Much of Nef's historical fiction draws directly from her own family history, including her great-grandfather, born in Barbados in 1859 — a lineage she has spent years researching and honoring on the page. Her Caribbean roots run deep through her storytelling, alongside a personal faith journey that began in her late teens and has shaped both her life and her writing ever since.
By day, Nef is an elementary school educator in the DeKalb County School District in Georgia, where she has taught across multiple grade levels and developed a strong interest in curriculum design. She holds a PhD in Developmental Psychology, two master's degrees, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, with a professional background that includes social services work in New York City and research at Emory University.
Nef lives in Lilburn, Georgia, with her family, where she balances teaching, writing, and raising her children alongside a lifelong love of Lego building (she made it to the semifinals of casting for Fox's Lego Masters in 2021) and a deep commitment to telling stories that reflect real faith, real family, and real grace.
Her books have been published since 2012, spanning more than twenty titles across multiple genres and age groups, all united by the same conviction: that grace is never earned, only given — and that every family, however imperfect, is still worth writing about.
