Jay Floyd

Jay Floyd is a writer, storyteller, and founder of Open Book Media, a platform dedicated to storytelling that uplifts, challenges, and connects. His work explores themes of identity, resilience, and the power of personal narratives—whether through self-development books, fiction, or podcasts.

Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Jay’s writing is infused with the culture, humor, and complexities of growing up Black in the Midwest. His memoir, The Poet Who Watched the Whole Parade, gave readers an intimate look at his journey through loss, faith, and self-discovery. He has also co-authored The Unofficial Guide to Fatherhood and penned the coaching guide The Driver’s Seat, helping readers take control of their lives through strengths-based leadership.

Now, Jay steps into fiction with his debut novel, a vivid coming-of-age story that’s been brewing in his mind for over a decade. Focused on authenticity and emotional depth, his fiction aims to bring to life untold stories of Black youth, friendship, and self-definition in the 1980s Midwest.

Beyond writing, Jay is a tech leader, podcast host, and speaker who is passionate about helping people lean into their unique strengths. Alongside his wife, Nia, he co-hosts The Open Book Podcast, where they tackle real conversations about marriage, faith, and culture.
