John Hankin writes about consciousness, systems, technology, ecology, governance, money, and human understanding.
He began his working life at sixteen in the Royal Signals, training in telecommunications, computers, and electronic engineering before working in military and NATO communications, including fault control and cryptographic systems. His later career included computerised oilfield instrumentation, telecommunications, industrial control systems, newspaper transmission, digital imaging, technical training, and systems consultancy.
Alongside his technical career, he has spent many years exploring Taoist, Buddhist, Zen, and Dzogchen teachings, drawn especially to their insights into awareness, stillness, self-understanding, and freedom from conditioned thought.
After a lifetime spent working with complex technical systems and contemplative ideas, he now writes books that explore the larger systems shaping human life: the mind, society, money, technology, the living Earth, and the search for deeper understanding.
