Thomas Kiernan

Tom Kiernan was born in Granard, county Longford, Ireland. After his secondary education, he farmed for several years and then decided to go abroad. He lived in Paris, France for the best part of six years. While there he read extensively and by increments found the path towards being a writer. The Paris experience was tough but formative. He has been writing in stops and starts since that period and is still learning the craft. He lives in Kilkenny, Ireland with his wife, Alice.

He has six books with Amazon at the moment: a long short story,"American Cousin", a novella called "Confessions of a Rock Star", a collection of short stories called, "A Time for Telling", a novel, "The Sniper" and a novel called "That Old Abiding Song". He has also three short stories on the Amazon sales page.

"Someone I never Knew" is a short story collection that was published by 6thhouse, a small Galway based publishing house two years ago. Books Ireland gave it a favorable review in their May edition in 2012, and I quote an extract:

"His fifteen tales are a kind of modern take on Balzac's human comedy as he explores and celebrates life in all its foibles, idiosyncrasies and dramas."

This year, June 2016 Thomas won the Bryan Mac Mahon Short Story Competition in Listowel for his story "Sunflowers".
