WHO AM I?
A prairie writer, a regionalist. How can a writer by anything apart from his region? Think Faulkner and the American South. Part of being a prairie writer is the mental freedom it allows. A sense of space inhabits us. Because of the freedom and space it allows, Calgary suits me as a place to live. I'm part of its maverick mentality.
I was born in northern Alberta, grew up in Edmonton and now live in Calgary. I studied at the University of Alberta and, after raising a family, completed an M.A. in English at the University of Calgary. Besides writing, I've worked as an editor, teacher and freelance writer and have long been involved in the Calgary literary community.
