Aimee Kendall Roundtree, Ph.D. is an Associate Dean of Research and professor of technical communication at Texas State University She teaches health and science communication, medical and science writing, social media, digital and hypermedia, web publishing, usability and accessibility, visual design, and technical communication. She is a qualitative researcher and medical writer. Her research investigates health, medicine, science, technology, media, visual culture, and organizations.
She has served as a medical writer and qualitative researcher in the Texas Medical Center. She has served as a scientific investigator for the Houston Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics. She has also covered medical issues and health news as a communications specialist for the Texas Medical Foundation and an assistant editor at Ladies' Home Journal magazine. She has also helped with web and social media campaigns for non-profit organizations.
Her research and publications examine STEM communication, scientific discursive practices, the impact of new media on communication, patient attitudes on health utilization and health-related quality of life, and the rhetoric of visual design and information technology. She is currently working on several projects, including book manuscripts on health decision-making and on organizational uses of social media, and articles on health-related uses of Facebook, Twitter and blogs.
