Thomas L. Humphries

When I have free time, I enjoy playing guitar and working in the wood shop. My wife and I were married at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, GA, and we have a young daughter. I'm currently an associate professor of philosophy, theology, and religion at Saint Leo University and volunteer with the local county Fire and Rescue Department as the District Chief (FL-FF1-FO1 / EMT). I played rhythm guitar in the faculty band, hold a few records at the university fitness center, and advise several student groups on campus, including the Pro-Life club and Residential Living-Learning Communities (Prayer & Mindfulness).

I grew up in Arkansas as the first-born son of a carpenter and nurse. My two younger brothers and I attended parochial school and the Diocesan Catholic High School for Boys. In high school I participated in Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Exploring, USMC JROTC, and Search and Rescue/Emergency Medicine. I studied Forestry and Philosophy at the University of the South (Sewanee), worked as a youth minister in TN and AR, and taught high school (algebra and outdoor education) before going to grad school. I studied at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, for an MA in Systematic Theology before moving to Atlanta to complete a PhD in historical theology at Emory University.
