Jamie Young

Jamie Young is an Australian children’s author, teacher and mum from Western Australia. With a love of storytelling, imagination and the magic of childhood, Jamie writes stories inspired by the experiences of everyday Australian families.

Having lived in Tom Price, Karratha, Rockingham and Mandurah, Jamie has collected stories along the way that are inspired by her uniquely Aussie experiences such as the places she has called home and the colourful characters she has met along the way.

Her debut picture book, FIFO Elf, is particularly close to her heart. Growing up with a dad who worked FIFO for more than 15 years, Jamie knows what it feels like to miss someone who works away. As a child, she created her own magical explanation for where her dad went—imagining that perhaps he wasn’t flying to a mine site at all, but somewhere much more magical.

Years later, that childhood idea became FIFO Elf—a story created for the many Australian children and families who know the FIFO life.

When she isn’t writing, Jamie can be found teaching, spending time with her family, or dreaming up her next story. Jamie's writing is genuine, warm, funny and heartfelt. We have been waiting for a storyteller like her to come along.
