Terrence Murphy

Terrence Murphy, brought up in Nahant, Massachusetts, spent his career as an internist and infectious disease specialist in Boston. Since retiring in 2003, he has become a full-time writer.

His novel "Assumption City" (2012) was inspired by his years as physician for a large Catholic seminary. With the ever-widening sex abuse crisis in the Catholic Church and the Me-Too Movement, the book is even more timely today than when it first appeared.

Forty Steps and Other Stories (2018) are all set in the fictitious town of Egg Rock, north of Boston and are linked not only by their setting, but by the reappearance of characters, their ancestors and descendants. Forty Steps was given a Kirkus starred review.

Terrence and his wife Elizabeth Wood live just outside Boston. They have two children and five grandchildren. He is currently working on a new novel, Hoofbeats on the Bridge.
