LEE WON-RO
Poet as well as medical doctor(cardiologist), professor, chancellor of hospitals and university president, Lee Won-Ro`s career has been prominent in his brilliant literary activities along with his extensive experiences and contributions in medical science and practice. Lee Won-Ro is the author of fifty one poetry books and twelve anthologies. He also published extensively including nine books related to medicine both for professionals and general readership.
Lee Won-Ro`s poetic world pursues the universal themes with profound aesthetic enthusiasm. His work combines wisdom and knowledge derived from his scientific background with his artistic power stemming from creative imagination and astute intuition. Lee Won-Ro`s verse embroiders refined tints and serene tones on the fabric of embellished words. Poet Lee Won-Ro explores the universe in conjunction with his expertise in intellectual, affective and spiritual domains as a specialist in medicine and science.
Poet Lee Won-Ro won the Hahn Prize
for Special Literary Award
Poet Lee Won-Ro won the Hahn Prize for Special Literary Award for the Year of 2021.
The announcement of the selection committee is as follows:
“Poet Lee Won-Ro pioneered an unique field based on his own inimitable aesthetics.
His poetry pursues the world of cosmic spirituality. He dreams and sings the eternity of life and the immortality of the soul with a macroscopic perspective. The peace he dreams of is not only peace in the human world, but also peace in the universe and peace in the world of life.
This expression of cosmic spirituality is an original area that is hard to come across in Korean poetry. Taking various factors into consideration, he was unanimously selected as the recipient of the Special Literary Award for the 2021 Hahn Prize.”
Poet Lee Won-Ro is the winner of the 2022 PEN Literature Prize.
He received this distinguished award for his brilliant literary activities and contributions to the advancement of poetry from International PEN Korea Center.
Poet Lee Won-Ro won the Achievement Award of the Korean Hospital Association.
"From February 1st, 2010, Poet Lee Won-Ro's < Town with Poetry> has been serialized in the hospital newspaper.
You have contributed greatly to the emotional cultivation of hospital staff and patients. Therefore, we present this achievement Award in celebration of the 37th anniversary of the hospital newspaper. April 19, 2023."
