Gene Beyt, MD, MS studies wisdom leadership, positive change, healthcare transformation, and patient-centered innovations through teamwork and collaborative care.
He previously served as Senior Vice President of Quality for Indiana University Health, as well as Clinical Associate Professor in Health Systems Management at Tulane University. At Tulane, Gene taught physician executive leadership and developed an innovative leadership curriculum which included team-based collaborative care simulations.
Gene completed his training in internal medicine and infectious diseases at Washington University School of Medicine, and his master's degree in preventive and administrative medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. As the physician executive in healthcare effectiveness for the Louisiana public hospitals and clinics, he helped to develop a recognized statewide disease management and performance improvement program. In addition, he coordinated the organizational learning and leadership development activities, including an assessment of psychological capital in healthcare professionals following the Katrina disaster.
Gene has served as an academic program director in internal medicine and a chief medical officer, and he is co-editor of the book Wisdom Leadership in Academic Health Science Centers: Leading Positive Change, Radcliffe Publishing, London and New York, 2013. He is currently facilitating transformational change through leadership development, deployment of collaborative care and interprofessional teamwork, and the creation of structures and experiences for organizational learning.
