Surazeus Astarius

Surazeus Astarius is the pen name of Simon Seamount who was born 1964 in Oregon, raised in Texas, and lived in Washington State many years, where he graduated with BA in Liberal Arts in 1988 from Washington State University. He worked as a word processor and desktop publisher before traveling around the United States playing folk music. He worked as a web designer in Michigan, then earned a MS in Geographic Information Science at Michigan State University in 2008. He currently works as a cartographer in Georgia.

Surazeus has written poetry since 1983. Since July 2011, he has been in the process of writing an epic poem called Hermead, or Science of Hermes, about the lives and ideas of philosophers and scientists. The complete epic is currently 907,592 words in 126,680 lines of blank verse. Volume 1 contains 15,064 lines of blank verse in the tales of Hermes, Prometheus, Kadmos, Asklepios, and Hesiodos. Volume 2 contains 16,058 lines of blank verse in the tales of Thales, Anaximandros, and Pythagoras. Volume 3 contains 19,084 lines of blank verse in the tales of Herakleitos, Parmenides, Anaxagoras, Empedokles, Leukippos, and Philolaos. Volume 4 contains 19,574 lines of blank verse in the tales of Demokritos, Platon, and Aristoteles. Volume 5 contains 20,780 lines of blank verse in the tales of Demetrios Phalereus, Epikouros, Arkhimedes, Ktesibios, and Eratosthenes. Volume 6 contains 20,674 lines of blank verse in the tales of Krates, Hipparkhos, and Philodemos. Volume 7 contains 15,446 lines of blank verse in the tale of Lucretius.
