Birthed a northerner (in Akron, Ohio). Reared a southerner (in Erwin, Tennessee).

Grew up in an all-white town and discipled by all-white churches. Currently reside in a majority-black city, taught for nine years in a majority-black college, and preach frequently in all-black churches.

Never been arrested--not even close. Spent twelve years ministering behind bars to juvenile murderers, arsonists, thieves, and one nationally vilified school shooter.

Grandson of a man who never learned to read or write his own name. Earned a Ph.D. and published two books and numerous articles.

Chief of sinners. Child of God.

All because of Jesus. Soli deo gloria!
