Margaret C. Collier

Recently retired after 37 years of teaching, Margaret Collier is writing books about her travels to the countries that she taught about during her career. These books are personalized with her experiences and her photographs.The books are high in interest but lower in vocabulary for those who may have discouraging reading difficulties.

During her career, she worked with children who had learning disabilities and other associated reading difficulties.She infused the arts into her curriculum to create additional interest for students. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Art Education from the MD Institute of Art in Baltimore, Md, a Master's Degree in Special Education from the College of Graduate Studies in Charleston, WV and a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Florida.

During her career, some of her achievements include being a 1st Team USA Today (Gannet Publishing)winner,being awarded a Japanese Fulbright Memorial Scholarship, was chosen a member of the TEA group working with former Russian satellite countries, was an English Speaking Scholars' recipient to NZ,received a Freeman Grant to China and was a member of the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, she traveled with the Toyota Foundation to Costa Rica to study the environment, and has presented workshops on arts infusion in the curriculum, locally, statewide, nationwide and internationally, as well as other current educational topics.

To date, she has had published by Xlibris Books 5 books in her "Dear Diana" series, one each on China,Ukraine, Egypt, Costa Rica and New Zealand. She is currently working on a book about London and creating enrichment materials for all 6 books.It is her goal to make geography interesting and to inspire more reading on the world's cultures so as to create a better understanding of the diversity of our world.
