Joel Oppenheimer born 1954 in New York City, was reared in Phoenix Arizona from when he was three months old. At eighteen, he left Phoenix for Chicago to attend the Chicago Art Institute school. He graduated with a BFA in 1978 and exhibited and sold his realist paintings mostly through Zolla Lieberman Gallery in Chicago.
He studied art conservation with the Conservator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute and gradually shifted his attentions to art conservation and art dealing specializing in the work of John James Audubon. He currently owns two art galleries, located in Chicago and Charleston, South Carolina. His Art conservation practice is based in Chicago and treats works of art for museums, collectors and art galleries.
