Jay Thakkar

Jay Thakkar is an Associate Professor at Faculty of Design, and Director at Design Innovation and Craft Resource Centre (DICRC) at CEPT University, Ahmedabad, India. He has a Masters in Visual Communication from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD), United Kingdom and a Diploma in Interior Design from the School of Interior Design, CEPT University. He received gold medals from the School of Interior Design, CEPT University and the Gujarat Institute for Civil Engineers and Architects (GICEA) for his research work. Jay Thakkar has co-authored “Prathaa: Kath-Khuni Architecture of Himachal Pradesh” (2013, co-authored with Bharat Dave & Mansi Shah) and “Matra: Ways of Measuring Vernacular Built Forms of Himachal Pradesh” (2008, co-authored with Dr. Skye Morrison) and has also authored “Naqsh: The Art of Wood Carving of Traditional Houses of Gujarat – Focus on Ornamentation” (2004). He has worked on various design, crafts and research projects in India and Britain, has been actively affiliated with different universities and organisations in India, Europe, and Australia, and has published and presented papers, delivered lectures, organised field research and mentored many students. He is passionate about travelling, photography and exploration of life.
