Dr. Charles R. Davis

Dr. Davis is a native of Harkers Island, NC and has ancestors that trace back to two of Ebenezer Harker's three sons. His book was derived from experiences of growing up on the Island and from a rich inheritance of maps, charts, personal letters and telegrams, and family histories relating to the Island's past. In addition, the author developed many original illustrations and shared personal photos to support the Island's unique history.

The author's personal story includes anecdotes from experiences lived during World War II and during the Island's period when it was a unique and quaint fishing village next to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse on Carolina's storied coast. His father, Earl Davis, led the progressive development of most of the Island's recent improvements...such as bringing electricity, telephones, and a water system to the islanders. The Island's bridge to the mainland was named by the State in his father's honor.

The author's personal link to the Island's three hundred year history has enabled him to share his passionate and intimate story.
