Brent Horvath

President and Grower of Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. is a Third-generation gardener, second-generation nurseryman and first-generation American.

I grew up in the green industry working for my Mom and Dad at their garden center, landscaping co., and florist. I graduated with a B.S. from Oregon State University in 1991 and started growing finished perennials for the wholesale trade. Today Intrinsic Perennial Gardens, Inc. lists over 700 varieties and sells many more. A few of our main crops are Ornamental Grasses, Sedum and other plants for the greenroof trade. I develop over 50 new perennials including over 10 Geum ‘varieties including ‘Mai Tai’, Pennisetum ‘Redhead’, Penstemon ‘Pocahontas’, and Sedum ‘Thundercloud.’ Currently I have 14 plant patents with more and more pending. I mainly focus on breeding Geums, Sedum, native prairie grasses and other natives. My horticultural mentors are my dad Lajos Horvath, George Radtke, Roy Diblik, and Roy Klehm, and Alan Bloom. Currently, I have a book titled “The plant lover guide to Sedums” from Timber press, due out in April 2014.

My hobbies include gardening, windsurfing, skiing, snowboarding, jet skiing and travel.
