They say we should always write about what we know.
I am considered to be one of the world's most enduring cancer survivors, and I am a well recognised cancer patient supporter and advocate. So I write for, advise and present to people affected by all types of cancer, and those who work with them, worldwide.
Through Life, Happiness... & Cancer: survive with action and attitude! (available as a p-book and e-book on Amazon) I am a best-selling author.
I'm Welsh-born and New Zealand-raised. Based in NZ, I have fought and survived seven diagnoses of an incurable lymphoma since my symptoms first appeared in my mid-teens, 40 years ago. Twice I was riddled with stage 4 disease and was considered an unlikely survivor. You see there is no stage 5.
My survival through these diagnoses were not by luck: I planned and took steps to ensure I was prepared to support the medical interventions to do their job and to enable my body, mind and spirit to cope with and prevail through what was needed. What I did and how it helped medicine help me is detailed in my book.
My longetivity-against-odds and my extensive volunteer work won me an International Re-Building Lives Award in Vienna, Austria in 2007. The American Cancer Society appointed me an International Hero of Hope in Florida, US, in 2011.
Life, Happiness... & Cancer can and will help you cope with a cancer diagnosis and help you achieve the best outcome possible. It will also help your family and friends support you to achieve this all-important objective. Thousands of readers from New Zealand & Australia to UK, and from Poland to Africa have applied my book's principles to their causes and many, many have written to me, thanking me and calling my book their 'Bible.'
But you don't have to just take my word for it. Here are a few reader reviews taken directly off the UK Amazon site:

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Phil Kerslake! 22 Sep 2013

I worked in the NHS and was often asked to recommend a book not only for people diagnosed with cancer but their family and friends as well. Most people are quite specific with their request: not just 'inspiration', not just a happy ending, not just a list of 'do's' and 'don'ts' but a real read, written by a real person who has experienced the trauma that the diagnosis brings.
Phil Kerslake has been through the mill. He has lived with, and battled through cancer since he was nineteen years old, yet he has not written an emotional tale - yes, it is inspirational because he is inspirational but it isn't a harrowing, three boxes of tissues tale. It does have a happy ending but it makes no guarantees, it gives practical advice, coping strategies and deals with the subject in an intelligent, humorous and supportive manner.
Reading Phil's book is like talking to a friend and, let's face it, when the word 'Cancer' is hanging over your head, a friend is just what you need.
5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for the supporter of those with cancer 22 Sep 2013

When my wife was diagnosed with Breast cancer I brought a copy. This was enormous help to both of us. There is practicable guidance for people fighting cancer but uniquely also help for those on the side lines. It gave me a better understanding of what was happening and practical suggestions on what I could do to help. It doesn't make cancer scary, rather something that can be beaten.
A must read for the supporter of those with cancer, a group often forgotten.
Highly Recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars A 'must have' if you're facing cancer. 14 Sep 2013

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Incurable Metastatic Melanoma. I was 39 years old. I still have this book today and everyone in my immediate family has a copy. We bought the whole family one each, and found it invaluable as each of us were able to read at our own pace, in this easy to read style, written by a guy who actually gets this cancer stuff. A veteran diagnosed more times than anyone should ever have to cope with, this incredible man is willing to share what he has learnt along the way, with practical ideas and suggestions and stuff you just wouldn't have thought about. There's some pretty powerful stuff in this book and it will challenge you... highly, highly recommended.
