Sayandev Mukherjee

Sayandev Mukherjee was born in Bangalore, India in 1970. He graduated with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, in 1991 and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the School of Engineering at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1994 and 1997 respectively, for research in the training of artificial neural networks. His thesis advisor was Prof. Terrence L. Fine, himself the author of three books.

After graduation, the newly-minted Dr. Mukherjee went to work at the temple of telecommunications engineering, Bell Laboratories in New Jersey, and stayed there until 2006, working throughout on resource allocation problems in cellular wireless networks. Then he moved to Silicon Valley, where he worked at various companies, big and small. His research interests in wireless center on analytical investigations of system metrics such as outage and capacity in heterogeneous cellular networks. Since late 2012, Dr. Mukherjee has returned to the subjects of his graduate research and is now working on problems related to machine learning and analysis of "big data," first at DOCOMO Innovations, Inc., then at Futurewei Technologies, and presently at CableLabs, where he is a Principal Architect.
