Mitchell Daly knew just as much as the next man about mindfulness meditation before he went off to college. He simply knew that it was a practice that originated in Eastern cultures that was geared toward freeing the mind, (whatever that meant).
When his curiosity got the better of him, he got the help of a colleague to learn more about the practice. Through mindfulness and mindful meditation he was able to declutter his brain and get rid of all the negative thoughts that he was always fighting with. He ended up being a much calmer individual and was better able to concentrate at work and in school.
After a few sessions, it all seemed pretty simple to Mitchell, this form of mediation is something that everyone should practice. If the aim is to be less stressed and to have the mental strength to tackle day to day challenges, mediation has to be a part of the solution and this is what he alludes to in his book.
